DENTAL IMPLANT PROCESS AT CORBIN DENTAL

Dr. Richard Corbin and Dr. Bruce Corbin are experienced dentists that offer quality dental implant services. If you have one or more missing or damaged teeth, we will recommend replacing them with a dental prosthesis that we support with implants. While there are many ways to replace lost teeth, dental implants are better for your oral health and are more aesthetically pleasing. Below we have summarized the dental implant process so that you can make an informed decision regarding your tooth replacement.

THE DENTAL IMPLANT PROCESS

INITIAL EXAMINATION

The process begins with a consultation at one of our convenient locations in Oyster Bay or Bayside, NY. Here, one of our dentists will perform a dental examination to determine if you are a candidate for dental implants. This requires that patients be in good overall health, not use tobacco or are willing to quit, have healthy teeth and gums, and enough bone to properly support the implants. A bone graft may be necessary if you have suffered from bone loss. Your dentist will create a customized, detailed treatment plan.

SURGICAL IMPLANTATION

Our dentists will place your dental implants in a predetermined location in your jaw during routine surgery while under local anesthesia. Our talented implant dentists are able to do the surgery at our Oyster Bay, or Bayside dentist office. The procedure time will vary based on how many implants we place. For example, we can place a single dental implant in about an hour.

OSSEOINTEGRATION AND FABRICATION OF RESTORATION

After the surgery, the implant posts will need a few months to fully integrate with the surrounding bone. This process typically takes about three to six months. The process called osseointegration is when the bone cells attach themselves to the dental implants, creating a strong and durable bond. The implant then becomes a sturdy base to hold the dental restoration. Once this process has taken place, we will then attach a small connector piece, an “abutment”. Our dentist will take several dental impressions and use them to fabricate your new custom restoration.

PLACEMENT OF DENTAL RESTORATION

When the custom restoration is complete, we will call you back to the office for final placement. At your final appointment, your dentist will secure your new replacement teeth. This can be a dental crown if you are missing one tooth. We will use a denture or dental bridge if you are missing multiple teeth. The dental restoration will blend in naturally with the rest of your smile.
